The Portuguese Golden Residence Permit Programme is a five-year residency by investment program for non-EU nationals. Portugal is a full member of the EU. The residence permit allows visa-free travel to Europe’s Schengen Area and only requires an average stay of seven days a year in Portugal over the five-year period.

How to obtain a residence permit?
You can obtain a residence permit via investing in real estate in Portugal, capital transfer, or business. Restrictions apply as to where to invest and regularly change, please contact us for up to date information (see below). The main options are as follows:
Capital Transfer
Transfering a minimum of €1.5 million into a Portuguese bank account or approved investments
Investment Fund
Investing a minimum of €500,000 in an investment fund or venture capital fund units committed to the capitalization of companies incorporated under the Portuguese law, with a maturity of at least five years and with at least 60% of the investment portfolio in companies with a registered office in the national territory.
Research Activities Donation
Donating €500,000 for research activities of public or private entities that are part of the national scientific and technological system OR €400,000 in a low population density area.
Cultural Donation
Donating €250,000 in support of artistic production or in the recovery or maintenance of national cultural heritage OR €200,000 in a low population density area.
Property acquisition
option 1
Investing a minimum of €500,000 in real estate (residential property is limited to designated interior areas) OR €400,000 in a low population density area.
Property acquisition
option 2
Investing a minimum of €350,000 minimum in real estate for the refurbishment of residential properties older than 30 years or in an area of urban regeneration, including the cost of renovations (residential property is limited to designated interior areas)
OR €280,000 in a low population density area.
Business
option 1
Creation of a minimum of 10 new jobs OR 8 new jobs in a low population density area.

Investing €500,000 for the incorporation or increase of the share capital of a company that is registered in Portugal, creating or maintaining a minimum of 5 permanent jobs for a period of 3 years.
How long does it take?
It takes 3 months to obtain a residence permit.
Who can apply?
Any Non-EU citizen can apply to become a resident of Portugal, as long as they:
- have no criminal record
- can justify the origin of the funds for investment
- hold a valid passport or travel document
- follow the investment requirements mentioned above
